What are "Jump Clones" and how do I use them ?

  • "Jump Clones" are special clones that can be activated at will and used to move your character across the universe.

What do I need to use "Jump Clones" ?

  • You need a science skill called "Infomorph Psychology", which allows you to have +1 jump clone per level.

How do I create a "Jump Clone" ?

  • You have to be in an installation (station/outpost) with a medical facility to create a "Jump Clone", there is a second tab there in the window to install and destroy them.
  • You must be in a fleet with a pilot using a ship with a Clone Vat Bay fitted (rorqual/mothership/titan) and activated, be on grid with them, and they must invite you to install a Jump Clone. The pilot of the vessel can destroy any Jump Clones aboard it.
  • To create a "Jump Clone" at a station/outpost the owner of the installation must have at least +8 standings to you or your corporation.

How do I activate a "Jump Clone" ?

  • You have to be docked in a station with no training active, then in the character sheet there is a tab for jump clones, select the one you want to jump to, and right click on it the select "CLONE JUMP".
  • You can only clone jump once every 24 hours, so use it wisely.

How do "Jump Clones" and normal clones relate to each other ?

  • They don't, they are two separate parts of the game, even if they deal with the same topic of clones. Your clone contract (destination and skill points covered) are transferred to any "Jump Clone" that you activate.

What happens to my current clone when I "CLONE JUMP" ?

  • Your current clone becomes a "Jump Clone" target even if you are in a station without the required standings or a medical facility. Any implants that that clone might have are preserved in the clone and you don't get any benefits from them because they are not in your active clone.

What happens to my "Jump Clone" contract after activation then ?

  • It is transferred to where your old clone was before jumping. If your activated clone is in a location with the required standings you can then create another "Jump Clone" there if you want to.

So I can create a "Jump Clone", go to empire and then bounce back and forth between the two ?

  • Yes but don't forget there is a 24 hour time limit between clone jumps.

What happens if I get podded in my "Jump Clone" ?

  • You can never get podded in a "Jump Clone", they are targets that you can jump to. If you get podded your normal clone contract applies. So for example, if you are in empire and clone jump to a 0.0 installation and get podded, your empire clone still remains as a "Jump Clone" target.

Can I still train skills after activating a "Jump Clone" ?

  • Yes, you can start training again right away, but the clone will only get the benefits from any currently installed implants.

Why would I want a "Jump Clone" ?

  • There are times when travel can be time consuming to get to a specific destination, using a jump clone can save you the cost of an office rent and the cost of a new body clone.


Finding Stations with Medical Facilities

  • Once you have your +8 standing with an NPC Corporation, you might have trouble finding one of that Corp's stations that has a medical facility. You can find them using Grismar's EVE data explorer, select the following options from the drop down boxes (click "Run Query" each time to get the next line to show) "show stations", "with service .." = "cloning", "owned by corporation with name containing .." = name of the corp. (you can make it even easier by filling the box beside "#jumps" with your current system, then clicking the button, the far right column will now show roughly how many jumps away it is).

Many Jump Clones one +8 station

  • Rather than running hundreds of missions in each place you want a jump clone (JC) there is a simpler solution. Gain enough standing in one station (personally cheated when we moved to 0 sec space and gained standing at our alliance outpost). Install a jump clone. Then fly to where you want your next jump clone installed. Jump back to your high standing station. You now have a JC installed where you left your last one and can install an additional JC in your high standing station (as you have just jumped into your first one and are now walking about in it). Rinse wash and repeat as many times as you like up to your maximum JC limit. All with only one +8 standing station.

Using pod death as a Jump Clone

  • There is a way of transporting yourself across the heavens without the use of a JC. This only works effectively if you have NO IMPLANTS and you must be rigorous and careful. You need to have visited your destination once before and have installed a medical clone, or your corporation must have an office in the destination station. Simply enter a station with a Medical facility and change the location of your medical clone, setting it to your desired destination. Now exit the station in your pod, choose a pleasant place to die (personally like floating about the Sun) and activate self destruct on the right click menu. After 2 minutes of your life flashing before your eyes you will explode and you will awake in your new location. REMEMBER you MUST install a new medical clone NOW, or you risk the loss of many days/weeks/years skill training. This method of transport becomes more expensive for older players as it will cost you a Medical upgrade each time of the appropriate skill retention. Older players usually have a higher earning capacity though, so don't cry for them. There is obviously no limit to your number of jumps like this. It can also be used in conjunction with JCs for times when your waiting for your JC to refresh.
