The Moa is often looked over when players come to select a combat Cruiser, primarily because of it's poor damage potential; it lacks even a single damage bonus to the already lackluster Railguns it uses as a primary weapon system, eschewing it for a range bonus instead. This lack of a bonus, combined with the relative power of Missiles in PvE, make the Moa a poor choice for PvE content.

However, pioneering pilots have managed to use the Moa very successfully in several ways. Firstly, in PvP combat, the Moa makes an excellent Blaster platform. It's extra range and resistances work very well with the high damage blasters, allowing it to get into range and keep it's tank up while unleashing hell from just a few km away.

The other way to use the Moa is as an all-in-one exploration vessel for High Sec. Mounting four Medium Blasters, three light drones, and a probe launcher/Salvager/Analyzer/Codebreaker setup, the Moa can successfully run all 1-3/10 combat sites that a player can scan down in High Sec while still being able to unlock any Archaeology or Hacking sites. Utilizing three Probe Strength enhancing rigs with a Sister's Probe Launcher, over 90 Probe strength can be obtained, making it easy to scan down sites. The really profitable sites, the 4/10 sites, are too difficult, however, for the Moa to take; these can usually be completed in Heavy Assault Ships, Battlecruisers, or Faction Cruiser.

Description & Bonuses

The Moa was designed as an all-out combat ship, and its heavy armament allows the Moa to tackle almost anything that floats in space. In contrast to its nemesis the Thorax, Moas are most effective at long ranges where its railguns and missile batteries can rain death upon foes.

Special Ability: 10% bonus to Medium Hybrid Turret optimal range per level and 5% bonus to shield resistance per Caldari Cruiser skill level.
