Smartbomb

  • A smartbomb is a type of weapon that is loaded in a high slot.
  • Smartbombs do not require turret or launcher hardpoints in order to be mounted.
  • They require the engineering skill Energy Pulse Weapons to operate.
  • Smartbombs do not require ammunition, but do use capacitor charge.
  • Smartbombs work by damaging all objects in a sphere with radius of the optimal range of the smartbomb; that is, everything within range from the ship firing it. Since they do not distinguish between friendly and unfriendly targets, extreme care must be exercised in their use with nearby ships and drones. The duration of one Smartbomb 'blast' is 10 seconds.
  • They generally aren't primary weapons, because of the extremely short range .. but can be invaluable for keeping small, fast ships away from you. They can be a good addition to your other weaponry. There are no size or speed issues with Smartbombs, so a small ship wandering into the blast of a Large bomb will be hurt a lot. Since many NPC ships move within smartbomb range they can be very helpful in missions. They are also invaluable for keeping drones off your hide. A single blast can wipe out entire waves in the blink of an eye.
  • There are four damage types of smartbombs, and they come in micro, small (frigate), medium (cruiser), and large (battleship) sizes. Advanced (faction, officer, deadspace) smartbombs usually do more damage and also have a larger range, with EM having the biggest range and damage multiplier and Kinetic the smallest.
